I just finished this compilation of stories. The stories were utterly evocative and absorbing, the kind of book that I knew, even before I had finished it, that I would need to read again. Ms. Pinegar's use of language, her images, her insight into human struggles and gifts spoke to me.The locations are vividly drawn and pulled me into the landscapes, the sights, the scents, the feel of them, giving life to even the quality of the air and light.
It's been awhile since I have been so taken with a book. I am planning to give this treasure of a book to some of my very special women friends as gifts - and to some special men as well!
I look forward to seeing what else this thoughtful talented woman publishes. The variety exhibited in her stories makes me want to read more of what she has to say -about anything!

I enjoyed Mess!! Pinegar gets the reader beyond the cognitive mind of her characters, into the inner processing of their life. She makes no apologies for their limitations... they are who they are. The author's understanding of loss, its effects, and how individuals cope, is remarkable. It is beautifully written and I long to read another.
The perfectly realized gems Hunger and Compensation in this volume are a testament that fiction - or the notional, hidebound constructs of long, short, or what have you - are happily flying apart from the center. Breaking up is hard to do well. Ms. Pinegar has the knack.
